So yesterday was Valentine’s day for me and the love of my life. And I have to admit, DH was really on it this year…Started off the day with pancakes decked with chocolate-covered strawberries at a table adorned with a dozen red roses. We could just stop right there…But then you couldn’t read the rest of this post.
Since it officially falls on Sunday and I have AWANA on Sunday evenings, we just decided to shift church to Sunday AM (we usually go Sat pm) and then celebrate on Saturday. Sounds simple, right? Umm… not exactly.
Don’t get me wrong…we had a lovely, amazing time but not before wading through some misunderstanding with our dear sweet girl, 17, who had made some plans because there was confusion about which day we were actually celebrating. Tears, which are not common for her, ensued and I’m afraid some words were said out of frustration that our plans were be competed with rather than a sympathetic heart. She had shared something with me earlier that she was upset about–an apparent snubbing by her friends and I did not realize how much it had upset her. Thankfully Daddy came to the rescue (hers, not mine) and after we left, we decided she needed to get out of the house and not just be sitting there alone. It ended well.
So Little Man went to a friend’s to play and we headed to the North Shore to eat and paddle board on the river. Our new favorite restaurant, which has none other than Lionel Ritchie as it’s “mascot”, is named The Beet Box. There are even LR throw pillows… the owner is a big fan. The food is mostly vegan and gluten free fare and it is delectable. They have kombucha on tap–Chad still doesn’t like it but he tries. The tables are made out of wood and the atmosphere is very feel good, (like every place on the North Shore). You might like it whether you’re our age or young, since the 80’s seem to be making a comeback.
After a Beirut(Falafel) Burger and a Meatless Burrito, we were set to hit the river and scout for turtles, which were out eating seaweed at locations other than the one we were at. We did see a few adorable little heads pop out of the water but by the time we paddled to their location they had long since gone. We still had fun. Chad had the go-pro and was trying to find some interesting fish. We met up with some very brave ducks that would cross right in front of us and plenty of fisherman when we got back to the Ocean.
We paddled out past the boat harbor and watched a stunning pink-and-orange arrayed ball slip off to slumber behind the majestic mountains but not before it’s glorious beams came streaming out from behind a bank of white fluffy clouds like heaven reaching down to us. It’s always like that when I see those sunbeams… like a reminder that He is always there, which of course, He is.
And then we headed back to pick up some Valentine’s goodies for the kids, pick up Alex and watch the American goddess of beauty and love, Wonder Woman.Alex actually prefers Batman, but since it’s on while we are at church, he settles for WW. Chad had to head to town to pick up DD since she isn’t nearly as keen on taking the bus back home and she is to get somewhere. Understandable.
It was a good relaxing day. Spent with an amazingly talented and wonderful man. My bestie.
Isn’t life grand?
